After reading a book called The Gnostic Gospels and examining some of the research done on the Dead Sea Scrolls this painting came to mind.  In it I have images of a "standing man" who I use to represent mankind in general.  The image is based on representations of the Australian aborigine one of the most ancient cultures on earth standing with his spear in the Australian desert. Surrounding him are symbols of a lost writing, some on incised leather.                                                                                   ---------------------------------------------------------------

Throughout my career much of my work has examined the incongruity of man's relationship to God and/ or myth..  I explore though symbols, the encounter of deeply held religious beliefs with new historical/scientific data related to those beliefs. The imprint of contemporary scientific techniques on long held beliefs is suggested in my work through the addition of a hard edged element, often a grid.

My work incorporates unusual juxtapositions of images and ideas, often in ambiguous spatial relationships.  For example, in The Dead Scrolls "See" much of the red is painted under the blue and black paint layers, not floating well on top as it first appears. As with the art of Aboriginal Australia (where I lived for a year) I have infused the story with several layers of meaning, based on symbols of personal concerns.
